As cancer becomes the #1 killer worldwide in this 2010 election year and the lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender (LGBT) community has been identified as one of the six most at-risk populations in the USA, the nationwide "Vote OUT Cancer" project takes it's campaign to Beverly Hills to raise awareness and direct research funding to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and other cancer-related organizations.

The "Hot, Sexy, Beautiful Velvet Red Carpet Celebrity Event," to be held on Friday, June 4, 2010, at the Beverly Hills Country Club between 11am - 11pm, produced by Los Angeles-based Network for Aesthetic Professionals, brings together celebrities and major businesses in celebration of the MTV Movies Awards, and will benefit the getavision programs which provide financial and personal support services to those in the LGBT community facing cancer, HIV/AIDS and other critical health challenges.

Produced by the getavision programs of the Los Angeles-based Metropolitan Community Charities, the campaign will address the unique issues facing the LGBT community which are pushing the incidence of cancer to unusually high levels. The campaign will also present clear solutions to some of the most basic challenges behind the growing health problems plaguing the community.

The event will also celebrate the launch of the getavision "LIVEOUT LIVESTRONG" program, an international outreach to battle cancer in the LGBT community in countries around the world, including a global media project, the release of the first LGBT-focused brochure of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, and "LIVEOUT LIVESTRONG Day" events to be held on October 2, 2010.

2010 GIRL OF THE YEAR

I am raising money in honor of a 6 year old leukemia survivor with whom we both owe our lives to LLS and the amazing medical team at the City of Hope National Cancer Research Hospital. Cynthia Aguirre of Riverside, California is the LLS Girl of the Year. While I was undergoing my initial chemotherapy for lymphoma, Christina was being diagnosed with leukemia at the young age of only 22 months and completed chemo treatment in 2007. Though she was in remission, Christina since relapsed and has just now completed another round of chemotherapy in March 2010. I really want to encourage her as she recovers and moves forward!

ABOUT ME

I was a media producer with my own company in Hollywood for 20 years, NeTV Networks, until I contracted Stage 4 Burkitt's Lymphoma in 2007, one of the most aggressive cancers which would require months of hospitalization followed by a Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplant.

I had to quickly close my company and relocate so that my partner could take care of me throughout my treatment which I received at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana and City of Hope near Pasadena, California, where I received a Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplant which literally saved my life.

Indeed, I owe my life to the research done and breakthroughs made through LLS which supports research being done at City of Hope and other institutions around the world.

Since I've been in recovery mode, I have spoken on behalf of the City of Hope in Palm Springs and participated in the presentation of the 2009 LLS Congressional Honors at the US Capitol in presenting awards to Sen. Teddy Kennedy and California Rep. Mary Bono Mack.

I have recently launched a 501(c)3 non-profit program called getavision [getavision.org] which will provide financial and personal support resources for people facing cancer, HIV/AIDS and other critical health challenges, primarily focused on those in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

Through the getavision programs, I'm spearheading an outreach to the LGBT community together with the National LGBT Cancer Network and LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Through my work with LLS and the getavision programs, one of my primary goals is to raise awareness of the link between HIV infection and cancer to increase early detection and reduce the now growing number of cancer diagnoses in this community.

EXCITING NEW CANCER BREAKTHROUGHS

What is most exciting are the incredible breakthroughs being made by LLS in advancing cancer treatment and the astounding progress they are making towards finding cures for leukemia, lymphoma and other cancers, as well.

Your donation is tax deductible and will support the LLS programs, including research, patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services. Many thanks for your support for patients battling blood cancers and their families.

Be sure to visit my Web site often to check on my progress and please ask your friends to support my efforts. Join me and help advance the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
