One of the most studied ways of giving is forgiveness.  Forgiveness brings an inner freedom, serenity, and peace that sets the tone for an entire life.  Forgiveness sets us free from our burden of guilt and yet, paradoxically, frees us from pain.  Sometimes it simply means privately letting go of our rumination and bitterness and moving on.  Though there are certainly times when forgiveness is not appropriate, more often than not it is healing.
