LIVE Healing Harp Broadcasts with Diana Rowan

Harpist Diana Rowan’s playing has been described as having "unusual power and beauty." Born in Ireland, she lived and studied on the East Coast, in Europe and the Middle East before settling in Berkeley, California, where she received both her BA in Women's Health and her Master of Music degree. Each country left a strong impression on Diana's music, which interweaves Celtic, Eastern European, Near Eastern and classical arts and mythology, tapping into the worldwide and archetypal power of the harp.   Always conscious of the intersection between music and its community role in marking rites of passage, connecting past with present, facilitating communication and ultimately healing, Diana's art addresses the most primal applications of music cross-culturally.

In the health care arena, Diana is a certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor via UC Berkeley Extension, volunteered for the legendary Berkeley Free Clinic, worked both the hotline and shelter of Oakland's A Safe Place, a refuge for battered women and their children, and taught piano at Harrison House, a halfway house in San Francisco's Tenderloin district, among other experiences.  She is often asked to perform at benefits, and has recently appeared for the Tibetan Aid Project, International Women's Club of Bulgaria, and Japan Disaster Relief Fund.

Diana has been a regular performer at Kaiser Permanente hospitals and Oakland Children’s Hospital, where she honed her healing harp skills. She is also resident harpist for several large spiritual gatherings, including Reclaiming's Spiral Dance, and enjoys collaborating with artists as varied as Indian bansuri master Deepak Ram, early music stars The San Francisco Renaissance Voices, and electronica guru Jef Stott, to name a few.

Diana performs and presents worldwide (from the Australian Harp Festival to the Smithsonian to Istanbul University), teaches and records often, and can be heard on many CDs and soundtracks for film and TV, including her two solo albums Panta Rhei and The Bright Knowledge (now recording her third CD, As Above, So Below).

Diana currently splits her time between the San Francisco Bay Area and Eastern Europe, working on a PhD in harp composition at the National Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria.  Whenever not harping and healing, you can find her on the dance floor, as an Argentine tango devotee.  Further info: www.dianarowan.com
